Scott Farquhar, co-founder of Atlassian, says copyright laws urgently need to be reformed to allow tech giants to train their artificial intelligence models on local content and to keep data center investments flowing.
Farquhar, who retired from the workplace software business in 2024 and is now chairman of the Tech Council of Australia, said the consequences of maintaining the status quo were deeply misunderstood and that it was nearly impossible for AI developers to navigate the country’s existing laws.
