The accused identified as Suraj was arrested from his home in Dayalpur. Police also recovered two mobile phones and a laptop from his possession.
Police said that Suraj randomly selected a phone number in a WhatsApp group of a friend known as ‘Hyatt’.
“Suraj first hacked the Facebook account of the contact by using the phone number as password which turned out to be the actual one and then accessed his gmail account. Suraj checked the emails and google drive and chanced upon objectionable photos of the owner with a girl,” said Auraiya SP Triveni Singh.
Suraj then used masked calling to contact the victim on January 1 and asked for money. Initially, the victim ignored the call thinking it was a prank. But when Suraj called again and threatened to send his objectionable photos to his father and sister, he informed his parents and then approached police on January 3.
Suraj was traced by the IP address he had used to login the victim’s Facebook account.
The SP said that people should not use their phone numbers as password of their email and social media accounts.
