Scammers use fake “Gemini” AI chatbot to sell fake “Google Coin”.

Scammers have found a new use for AI: They create custom chatbots that pose as real AI assistants to pressure victims into buying worthless cryptocurrencies.

We recently came across a live presale page for “Google Coin” that featured a chatbot claiming to be Google’s Gemini AI assistant. The bot walked visitors through a sophisticated sales pitch, answered their questions about investments and return predictions, and ultimately ended with victims sending an irrevocable crypto payment to the scammers.

Google does not have cryptocurrency. But with “Google Coin” already appearing in scams, anyone looking at it might think it’s real. And the chatbot was very convincing.

AI as the closer

The chatbot introduced itself as:

“Gemini – your AI assistant for the Google Coin platform.”

It used Gemini-style branding, including the glitter icon and a green “Online” status indicator, which immediately gave the impression that it was an official Google…
