New Mexico middle school students will once again experience the thrill of building their own electric cars as part of the annual New Mexico Electric Car Challenge. This year they can also explore the world of artificial intelligence.

The annual event, sponsored by Sandia National Laboratories, encourages students to push their creativity to the limit, using science, technology, engineering and mathematics to design and build an electric car that can travel the fastest with a payload.

The competition provides a fun way for teachers to inspire students and an opportunity for Sandia employees to share their expertise with curious students.

This year’s challenge adds a new dimension by inviting students to explore the interface between artificial intelligence and electrical intelligence.
