Sand Springs residents packed Charles Page High School for a public meeting to learn more about a proposed data center project and to voice concerns directly to city leaders and representatives from Google.
Why are residents concerned?
Residents said they worry the facility could be noisy, drive up utility bills, affect long-term public health and permanently change the character of nearby neighborhoods. Others questioned whether the land should remain available for agricultural use instead of industrial development.
“My biggest fear would be our bills doubling… not being able to enjoy the fruits of our labor,” Aries Howard said.
Noise was another major concern, with one resident pointing to projected sound levels.
“It would be 60 decibels at the fence line. That’s loud. That is very loud,” a resident said.
