I liked the Samsung ones Galaxy Z Flip 3 when I reviewed it last year, but its battery life was abysmal compared to its non-folding flagship counterparts. Despite the built-in fast charge feature, the Z Flip 3’s battery is one of the smallest you can get in a premium phone.
The good news is that, according to at least some reports from trusted leakers, changes are on the horizon. Come over to us 9to5Googlea Dutch site called galaxy club reported that the next-gen Z Flip 4 will have a 3400mAh battery instead of a 3300mAh battery.
Yes, the bump is minor, but it’s better than nothing, and it shows that Samsung is thinking about how to extend battery life while keeping the foldable phone in your pocket. The Z Flip 4 will technically have two batteries to house the opening and closing mechanism of this particular model. But compared to current flagships, most of which have 5000mAh batteries, the Z Flip 4’s purported battery size is still very small.
The Z Flip 4 may also have a larger cover display, making those animated screensavers even more fun if the rumor is true. Per XDA developerand acc Ross YoungAnother well-known leaker and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the Z Flip 4 will start with at least a 2-inch coverage screen instead of the current 1.9-inch screen.
Young also leaked details about Samsung’s other foldable variant, the Z Fold 4. In particular, he compared it to what he calls the “Google foldable” – that’s probably a reference to a foldable Pixel smartphone. The rumor mill had been buzzing before a folding pixelsbut young had reported last year that google had downright canceled it When it realized it couldn’t compete with Samsung’s offerings at the same price. It seems now like maybe a new, different foldable Pixel is in the works.
“Z Fold 4 and Google Foldable will have similar sized foldable displays.” tweeted Young, adding that Google’s cover display could be 5.8 inches and offer a wider aspect ratio than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 sold remarkably well for a flip phone and even outperformed it 1 million units just two months after launch. The third generation model improved on the form factor of its predecessors and upgraded the camera specifications. But there were some concerns about how people would take it, considering folding phones aren’t quite a mainstream concept.
We don’t know when Samsung plans to launch its next line of foldable devices. We expect to hear more this summer, considering the last two generations of flip phones have had summer releases.
