Samsung is discontinuing its messaging app and transitioning to Google Messages by the summer.
In an End of Service Announcement shared the week of March 30, Samsung said it will discontinue its Samsung Messages application by July. Samsung will transition to Google Messages, and the tech giant is asking users to go ahead and make the switch themselves for an easier transition.
Samsung said the benefits to the move include AI-powered scan detection and spam filters that block unwanted messages; AI-powered features, like Google’s Gemini; and multi-device connectivity between phones, tablets and smartwatches. Google Messages also allows for RCS Messaging, internet-based messaging, the company outlined.
Here’s what we know about the Samsung switch.
