Safari and Edge to get Google Docs voice typing feature

Google is making voice typing in Google Docs more widely available by expanding it beyond the Chrome desktop to Safari and Microsoft Edge browsers. This move aims to enhance inclusivity and accessibility for users. Voice typing allows users to speak and have their words transcribed into text in Google Docs. Users can access this feature by going to Tools > Voice Typing and using the floating microphone. It is recommended to speak clearly, at a normal volume, and pace for accurate transcription.

In addition to voice typing, users can also utilize voice commands in Google Docs. Voice commands enable users to add punctuation, select text, format, edit (cut/copy/paste), move, and add tables. If a mistake is made while typing with voice, users can easily correct it without turning off the microphone.

Google is also implementing voice typing in Google Slides to allow users to add speaker notes. Moreover, automatic subtitles are being introduced to provide captions when a speaker is speaking during a presentation. By enabling voice typing and captions, the browser manages the speech-to-text service, processes speech, and sends text data to Google Docs and Google Slides.

These features are available to a wide range of users, including Google Workspace customers, Google Workspace Individual subscribers, and individuals with personal Google accounts. This makes voice typing and automatic captioning accessible to a broader audience, promoting inclusivity and ease of use for all users.

Overall, Google’s expansion of voice typing and automatic captioning to additional browsers and platforms demonstrates the company’s commitment to enhancing user experiences and making their products more accessible to a diverse range of individuals. This initiative aims to improve productivity and workflow efficiency by offering alternative methods of input and communication through voice recognition technology.
