The US government has a message for almost anyone with a computer: Russia is still using some of the oldest hacking tricks to break into your systems.
Russian military intelligence is continuing its global hacking campaigns, the National Security Agency announced on Thursday, including “brute force” campaigns – a classic hacking technique that automates possible username and password combinations until the hacker gains access to a computer network receives.
The warning isn’t particularly unique, but it stands out for the cross-border coordination and timing. In a joint report with several other federal agencies and the UK, the NSA stated that a unit within the Russian GRU agency responsible for some of the most productive and effective hacker attacks in history is behind a campaign to gain access to “hundreds of Governments “and Private Sector Goals Worldwide” since 2019.
