Russia is preparing to deploy a new AI-powered battlefield management system called Svod that aims to address persistent command and control issues among frontline units, according to an analysis published by Forbes on January 25th.

Forbes points out that the system is designed to address long-standing weaknesses in Russia’s military structure, including rigid top-down commands, slow decision-making and a lack of experienced junior officers following rapid force expansion.

The Svod system is designed as a digital decision support tool for commanders at the tactical level. According to Russian Defense Ministry data cited by Forbes, data from satellites, aerial reconnaissance, intelligence reports and open sources are combined into a single operational picture.
