More than 250 dogs were found on a property in such shocking scenes that the RSPCA was forced to reject allegations the images had been doctored by artificial intelligence.
The animal welfare charity said it took in 87 dogs from the property at an undisclosed location in the UK and the rest went to the Dogs Trust, another charity.
After the RSPCA posted images of the property online showing dozens of animals crammed into a living room, members of the public accused the charity of using AI tools to create the photos.
However, the RSPCA said the images were genuine and there had been a 70% increase in multi-animal incidents in England and Wales since 2021, referring to calls involving ten or more animals.
The property owners told RSPCA inspectors they had lost control of breeding the poodle-cross dogs and the situation quickly “got out of control”.
