Rising Data Breaches Cause Huge Encryption Spikes – Virtualization Review

Rising data breaches are causing huge encryption spikes

Rising data breaches have caused a huge surge in encryption, according to a new survey-based report, but it’s not ransomware attackers or other bad actors organizations are protecting against — it’s their own employees.

These are two takeaways from the new Entrust the 2022 Global Encryption Trend Study sponsored by Entrust and conducted by the Ponemon Institute. More than 6,000 responses were received for the study conducted last December/January. It is the 17th installment in the series.

With so much history to compare, Entrust found that this year 62 percent of organizations said they had adopted an encryption strategy, up from 50 percent in last year’s study, which the company said represented the largest increase in adoption in nearly two decades.
