Video doorbells have to walk a fine line with notifications. With too little, you could be missing out on something you would like to know about. With too many dents, your phone will explode, possibly thanks to a paper bag swirling around on your patio or from people walking by on the sidewalk. From the beginning, Ring has tried to refine this process. With its new flagship doorbell, $ 249 Video Doorbell Pro 2, and the new Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro announced today for $ 249, the optical camera is getting help from a new hardware upgrade.
The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 and Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro now include radar sensors. According to Jason Mitura, Ring’s chief product officer, the new radar consists of two transmitting antennas and four receivers. It works much like any other radar system you would find in a self-driving car. “The two transmitting antennas send out a chirping – a wave with a certain pattern,” he told PopSci over the phone.
