Report: STEM students protest Project Nimbus and vow to avoid working for Google or Amazon

Over a thousand STEM students and young workers from various universities have signed a pledge to not work for Google or Amazon until the companies end their partnership with Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion contract that provides cloud computing services to the Israeli government. The signatories, including students from Stanford, UC Berkley, the University of San Francisco, and San Francisco State University, participated in a demonstration against the project in front of Google’s San Francisco office. The pledge, organized by NOTA (No Tech for Apartheid), a coalition of tech workers and activists, marks a continued backlash against Google and Amazon for their association with the Israeli government. Google claims that Project Nimbus is not related to military work, but leaked documents suggest otherwise. Earlier this year, Google laid off over 50 employees following a sit-in protest against the project.
