IBM recently announced the recipients of the IBM Volunteer Excellence Awards, which honor individuals and groups for their outstanding contributions to volunteering. In 2023, winners volunteered in 12 countries, making a positive impact through various projects such as coding workshops for girls and food distribution in low-income neighborhoods.
One such winner was an IBM team in Italy who worked with a non-profit organization supporting women survivors of gender violence. They provided women with digital skills training through IBM SkillsBuild, empowering them for job preparation and a fresh start. In Japan, another team volunteered in Miyakojima, an island heavily reliant on outside energy sources. They developed an energy forecasting model using cloud technologies and AI to improve the island’s self-sufficiency in renewable energy.
Each award winner will receive a $10,000 grant to support a non-profit organization of their choice, demonstrating IBM’s commitment to driving positive change in communities. While the Volunteer Excellence Awards recognize a select group, IBM believes every IBMer has the potential to make a difference through various volunteering opportunities.
IBM is striving towards its goal of 4 million volunteer hours and encourages its members to get involved in community initiatives to contribute to positive change.
