Hackers suspected of having a connection to China repeatedly exploited the vulnerabilities in Pulse Secure VPN, a widely used remote connectivity tool Get access to government agencies, Defense companies and financial institutions in the US and Europe, showed a report released earlier this month.

For the past few weeks, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has been working to determine the extent of the problem and help the agencies secure their systems, including asking them to run an “integrity tool” to examine possible tradeoffs.

“At least five civil federal agencies are known to CISA that have run the Pulse Connect Secure Integrity Tool and have identified evidence of potential unauthorized access,” Matt Hartman, associate executive director of cybersecurity, said in a statement.

“We work with each agency to verify that an intervention has taken place and provide incident response assistance accordingly,” he added.
