Dbrand, the PlayStation 5 faceplate maker, previously dared to sue Sony after being threatened with legal action, ended up pulling the records after receiving another cease and desist letter from Sony.
As reported by The Verge, Dbrand posted a slogan-laden statement on Reddit that it was “only complying for now” and calling Sony a “terrorist”.
Dbrands “Darkplates”, as they were called, carried their own version of the PlayStation symbol pattern on the PS5. Sony has expressly objected to this, among other things, stating that it violates the company’s trademark rights, since the design is legally owned by Sony. In his counter-argument, Dbrand wrote that Sony should consider suing Netflix because Squid game uses the circle, triangle and square symbols throughout the show.
“Did you know that Sony believes that our distinctive and original ‘Illuminati Pyramid / Radiation Hazard / Skull & Crossbones / Angry Robot Head’ symbols engraved on the darkplates violate their trademarked button shapes? How the heck did it happen? Squid game Get away with it? ”Dbrand complained.
It’s unclear what Dbrand is up to next, but he ended his Reddit post with “talking soon”.
“We decided to submit to the terrorists’ demands … for now,” Dbrand continued. “While we firmly believe in the consumer’s right to customize and modify their hardware with aftermarket components, your darkplates are now a collectors item. You know what they are saying – either you die as the owner of darkplates or you live long enough to see yourself as a scalper. Finally, fuck you and especially Sony. We talk about this later.”
