Proximus NXT, a Belgian telecommunications group, has introduced a new sovereign cloud platform in collaboration with partners Microsoft, Intel, and Thales. This platform aims to enhance data protection for European companies by combining Microsoft Cloud for Sovereignty with cybersecurity expertise from Thales and Intel. Proximus is incorporating a European encryption layer on top of Microsoft technology to position itself in the sovereign cloud category, providing businesses with greater control over their critical data.
The new platform is currently undergoing testing by the Agoria group of technology companies. With the introduction of new laws such as NIS2 and DORA, European companies will be required to take additional measures to safeguard themselves against cyberattacks. Anne-Sophie Lotgering, Proximus’ enterprise market leader, emphasized the importance of sovereign cloud offerings for European businesses, citing reasons of security, compliance with European laws, and maintaining a competitive edge in the market.
Lotgering also warned of the increased risk of bankruptcy for organizations that fail to effectively manage remote access to their systems and processes. According to her, this risk is expected to triple by 2027. The sovereign cloud platform aims to address these threats by providing enhanced security measures and technology solutions for businesses to protect their data and systems.
In summary, Proximus NXT, along with its partners Microsoft, Intel, and Thales, has launched a sovereign cloud platform to better safeguard the data of European companies. By combining Microsoft technology with cybersecurity expertise, the platform aims to provide businesses with increased control over their critical data and comply with new European regulations regarding data protection. The platform is currently being tested by technology companies in Belgium, with the goal of helping European businesses mitigate the risk of cyberattacks and maintain their competitive edge in the market.
