Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has launched a new artificial intelligence startup called Project Prometheus, which already has $US6.2 billion ($9.52 billion) in initial funding.

Accordingly The New York TimesPart of the funding will come from Bezos himself, who will lead the startup as co-CEO in his first official operational role at a company since stepping down as Amazon CEO in July 2021.

The significant funding reportedly makes Project Prometheus one of the best-funded early-stage startups in the world.

Bezos has recently become more involved with Blue Origin, a competitor to Elon Musk’s SpaceX, where he is listed as a founder. His latest project reportedly fits with this interest in space and the billionaire’s growing appetite for developing new AI technology.
