The leap day on February 29 caused issues for Citrix virtualization products and Sophos security services. Users reported problems with Citrix HDX HTML5 Video Redirection Service not working on all VDA machines after the extra day. This service supports the user experience when streaming video content on a virtual desktop. Additionally, several environments stopped starting after the leap day, with one user reporting that the Citrix HDX HTML5 video redirection service ended unexpectedly after a nightly reboot.

In order to fix the issue with Citrix systems, users were advised to change the system time to February 28. However, this may be difficult for companies managing multiple servers. Similarly, Sophos Endpoint, Sophos Server, and Sophos Home also experienced problems with the leap day error. Users may have seen unexpected security certification warnings on HTTPS websites after rebooting on February 29 if “SSL/TLS Decryption of HTTPS Websites” was configured in the antivirus software, which is used to decrypt secure web connections. This setting is disabled by default for all users.

As a precaution, Citrix released a threat advisory regarding DDoS attacks. The leap day bug caused disruptions to both Citrix and Sophos products, highlighting the importance of ensuring that computer systems are programmed to account for the extra day in a leap year to prevent issues like these from occurring in the future.
