Preview of vCore-based Azure Cosmos DB for MongoDB with cross-region disaster recovery (DR) now available | Updates from Microsoft Azure

Cross-region disaster recovery for Azure Cosmos DB for MongoDB allows for the creation of a replica cluster in another region that stays up to date with the primary cluster. In the event of a primary cluster outage, this replica can be promoted to become the new read-write cluster in a different region. This replica can also be used for read operations, reducing the load on the primary cluster and providing faster read access for applications in or near the replica region. When the replica is promoted to the read-write cluster, it maintains a read replica in the original region, ensuring data consistency. Connection strings for the read-write and read-only clusters are retained after promotion.
