MELBOURNE, Florida. – Authorities killed a Florida Institute of Technology student Friday night who attacked a police officer on college campus with a “sharp weapon,” police said.
Melbourne Police said Saturday that 18-year-old Alhaji M. Sow, from Riverdale, Georgia, was fatally shot and killed by police and a school security officer in a campus building during the attack.
In a press release, police said they responded on campus around 11 p.m. Friday to investigate reports of a man armed with a knife who assaulted students.
College security and police confronted Sow in a building when he lunged at an officer with a “sharp weapon”, which resulted in the officer and guard being fatally shot, the statement said. The officer was injured, although the press release did not provide any further information. The officers did not provide any further details about the “dashing weapon”.
