Planned Google data center generating revenue in Botetourt County

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Botetourt County officials say a planned Google data center is already generating revenue for the county, allowing leaders to invest in public safety, education, and infrastructure before construction on the facility begins.

The Botetourt County Economic Development Authority met Friday to provide updates on the project, highlighting how funding tied to the agreement with Google has already been put to use. Officials acknowledged the data center continues to raise concerns among some residents, but emphasized the partnership is already delivering tangible benefits for the community.

According to county leaders, the funding has helped pay for three new ambulances serving the Buchanan, Fincastle and Read Mountain stations. The sheriff’s office has also received upgraded equipment and technology, including body cameras and less-lethal weapons.
