Google is working on a new feature for Pixel phones called “Adaptive Thermal” to help cool down the device when it overheats. The feature will alert the user when the phone needs to cool down and provide tips on what actions they can take to help. This is important because many phones can overheat, especially when used outdoors in direct sunlight with power-hungry features like 5G enabled. Google has already built in some anti-overheating features, but sometimes user intervention is necessary.
The Adaptive Thermal feature will generate a notification when the battery temperature reaches a certain level and suggest steps to cool down the phone, such as avoiding direct sunlight and closing battery-consuming apps. If the phone continues to overheat, more drastic measures may be taken to protect the device. While the feature is not yet enabled, it serves as a proactive tool to inform users of measures already being taken to prevent damage.
Future Pixel devices, like the rumored Google Pixel 9 Series, may have improved thermal regulation functions to address overheating issues. Additionally, a switch to TSMC for the next Tensor G5 chipset could contribute to better efficiency. Users with Pixel devices experiencing frequent overheating are encouraged to share their experiences and advice with Android Authority via email.
