Google Pixel 5 vs Xiaomi Mi 11: design

Both phones have very thin bezels and a hole in the top left corner. This is where their similarities basically end. The Google Pixel 5 is a much smaller device, while Google used different materials here. The Google Pixel 5 is made of metal, but you will notice that its back is covered in resin, it is essentially plastic. However, the phone feels good in the hand and is much less slippery than the Xiaomi Mi 11.

Incidentally, all frames of the Google Pixel 5 are of the same thickness. The Pixel 5 has a flat display, while the Xiaomi Mi 11 has a curved display. Your camera modules sit in the same place on the back, although they look completely different and the hardware is different too. As you can see, the Pixel 5 has a rear-facing fingerprint scanner while the Xiaomi Mi 11 has a built-in one.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 is made of metal and glass and is quite slippery. The device is also much larger and wider than the Pixel 5 while they are of similar thickness. The Xiaomi Mi 11 is a bit heavier, which is to be expected given the size difference. The Xiaomi Mi 11 is 45 grams heavier than the Pixel 5. Both phones look great and feel good in the hand, but the difference is huge.

If you prefer smaller devices that are less slippery, the Pixel 5 is the way to go. If you want a bigger phone and don’t mind the soap factor, the Xiaomi Mi 11 feels very high quality. It’s all a matter of preference.

Google Pixel 5 versus Xiaomi Mi 11: display

These two phones have vastly different displays. The Google Pixel 5 has a 6-inch FullHD + (2340 x 1080) OLED display. This display has a refresh rate of 90 Hz and supports HDR10 + content. It’s a flat display and is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6. By the way, we see an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 here. The Xiaomi Mi 11 has a much larger display.

The device has a 6.81-inch QHD + (3200 x 1440) AMOLED display. As you can see, it also offers higher resolution. In addition, it offers a higher refresh rate at 120 Hz. This display, by the way, just like the Galaxy S21 Ultra, provides an adaptive refresh rate. The display is curved and protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, the latest and greatest in protection from Corning. The Xiaomi Mi 11’s panel also gets much brighter than that of the Pixel 5.

The display of the Xiaomi Mi 11 is much better on paper. Will you notice this in real life? If you place the two displays next to each other, you will surely see the quality of the control panel of the Xiaomi Mi 11. It’s brighter and punchier while you feel the difference in refresh rate. The Xiaomi Mi 11 also offers higher touch sampling. The Pixel 5’s display is more than good enough, and most people won’t care about the differences, to be completely honest. Both displays are vivid, extremely responsive, and have wide viewing angles.

Google Pixel 5 vs Xiaomi Mi 11: performance

What about the performance? Well, the Xiaomi Mi 11 is a much more powerful device on paper. The phone comes with the Snapdragon 888 SoC, Qualcomm’s newest and most powerful chipset. In addition, it features the latest RAM and Flash storage devices for additional performance benefits. The Google Pixel 5, on the other hand, offers an inferior Snapdragon 765G processor as well as older RAM and flash storage units.

The Google Pixel 5 actually looks like a mid-range smartphone on paper compared to the Xiaomi Mi 11. However, is this something that you will notice in real performance? Well no not really. Both smartphones react extremely quickly, although the Xiaomi Mi 11 is more future-proof, that’s for sure. Both smartphones are almost equally suitable for surfing, consuming multimedia content, taking pictures and videos, etc.

However, the Xiaomi Mi 11 can load games a bit faster and also perform better in the games department. Other tasks with high SoC intensity are likely to be completed faster on the Mi 11 as well. For most people, however, both smartphones are almost equally good. While pure performance is on the side of the Xiaomi Mi 11, the Pixel 5 is a great performer and you will likely be happy with both devices for the foreseeable future.

Google Pixel 5 vs. Xiaomi Mi 11: Battery

The Google Pixel 5 comes with a 4,080 mAh battery, while the Xiaomi Mi 11 brings a 4,600 mAh battery to the table. This difference is expected because the difference in screen size and resolution is quite large. But are these battery capacities sufficient for the two smartphones? The short answer is, yes, they are. The Google Pixel 5 actually offers more in the section for battery life, although both are excellent.

The Pixel 5’s battery life is so good that some people can even use the phone for two days before they need to be charged. Exceeding the 7-hour on-time is not a problem at all, and it may even be possible to get more than 8 hours of on-time in a single day. The Xiaomi Mi 11 also offers really solid battery life, with power-on times exceeding the 6-hour mark for some, perhaps even over 7. This all depends on how you use your device, of course, so your mileage may vary.

When it comes to charging, the Xiaomi Mi 11 wins, that’s for sure. The device offers 55W fast wired charging and 50W wireless fast charging. You also get 10W reverse wireless charging. The Google Pixel 5, on the other hand, offers 18 W wired charging, 12 W wireless charging and 5 W wireless reverse charging. That’ll be more than enough for most people, but the Mi 11 offers a much faster charge, there’s no doubt about that

Google Pixel 5 vs Xiaomi Mi 11: cameras

What about the cameras? Well, the setups here differ significantly in comparison. The Google Pixel 5 has a much older 12-megapixel main camera sensor and relies heavily on Google’s camera software. In addition to this main sensor, it offers an ultra-wide camera. The Mi 11, on the other hand, has a 108 megapixel main camera supported by an ultra-wide device and a macro camera.

Google Pixel 5 Review AM AH 1

In terms of picture quality, both phones deliver, that’s for sure. Google’s camera magic is strong and this handset delivers with both cameras regardless of the conditions. It works wonders in low light and the pictures during the day are sharp, with really balanced colors. The Pixel 5 also does an excellent job with HDR images and manages to balance them out well.

However, the Xiaomi Mi 11 is also a great performer. The images during the day are extremely sharp. However, images captured with the main sensor are significantly better than with the ultra-wide sensor. The Mi 11 does a great job even in low light, as Xiaomi learned from the Mi 10’s mistakes and decided to correct them here. There are no problems with street light glare or the like. The Xiaomi Mi 11 tends to push the image saturation a little higher than the Pixel 5 during post-processing.

Audio

In terms of audio, they’re very different. Only the Xiaomi Mi 11 delivers real stereo speakers. The unit has one above and one below, and these speakers were tuned by Harman Kardon. The Pixel 5, on the other hand, has one speaker at the bottom, while the other is below the display. So it is based on vibrations for the secondary speaker rather than any actual physical entity.

You will notice the difference when you place the two devices next to each other. The Pixel 5 sounds a bit muffled compared to the Xiaomi Mi 11. If speakers are your thing, the Mi 11 is a better choice. In terms of audio through a good pair of headphones, both phones deliver on this. You get a balanced sound across the entire spectrum. Don’t expect miracles, but not many people will experience discomfort.
