Perplexity launched a new Mac app that includes its hybrid local-cloud AI agent Personal Computer, and it expanded Personal Computer access beyond Max subscribers to Pro and Enterprise users, according to MacRumors. MacRumors reports that Perplexity describes Personal Computer as a “personal orchestrator” that hybridizes local and server environments. The app gives users access to queries, conversations, and dictation, and Personal Computer can access the Mac file system, native Mac apps, and the web to create and execute workflows, per MacRumors. Actions are created in a secure sandbox and are auditable and reversible, and heavy processing is handled on Perplexity’s servers so a high-performance Mac is not required, MacRumors writes. The new app works on Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or later, and Perplexity’s older Mac app will be deprecated in the coming weeks, MacRumors reports.
