Perplexity AI has introduced Personal Computer in its new Mac application, bringing Perplexity Computer to macOS devices for the first time. The feature allows AI agents to operate across local files, native Mac applications, web tools, and Perplexity’s secure cloud infrastructure, enabling more autonomous and continuous task execution.
According to the company, Personal Computer moves Perplexity Computer beyond cloud-only workflows and onto users’ personal devices, where most real-world work already happens.
Perplexity originally started as an AI-powered answer engine focused on fast search and verified responses. The company later expanded into AI-driven browsing with Comet, a browser built for web-first AI agents capable of operating across different frontier AI models.
Building Comet helped Perplexity develop a model-agnostic orchestration system capable of coordinating tools, files, models, and workflows together. From this foundation, the company created Perplexity Computer, designed to turn user queries into continuously operating AI agent workflows across multiple environments.
