RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – A Wake Tech Community College security guard used pepper spray on the crowd at the John Wall Holiday Invitational after “an incident was spilled in the stands in the field” and disrupted a game Wednesday night.

A fight between fans broke out in the stands during the Farmville Central and Life Christian Academy (Kissimmee, Fla.) And spilled onto the pitch during the game, John Wall Holiday Invitational Media Director Bryan Hanks confirmed Thursday.

Raleigh police later confirmed Thursday that it was pepper spray used by a local security guard to quell the fight, and officers began clearing the gym. They also said the pepper spray was used after it was understaffed, likely due to the poor tournament security available because others responded to a fight in a previous game that night.
