The Department of Defense announced Tuesday that it had canceled a $ 10 billion cloud computing contract that sparked a major legal battle between tech giants Amazon and Microsoft.

The Department of Defense said it terminated the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure contract because “the JEDI cloud contract no longer meets its needs due to changing requirements, increased cloud conversation and advances in the industry.”

Amazon sued the contract, which went to Microsoft in late 2019, and was held in court for many months, forcing the Department of Defense to take a new direction to advance the modernization of its IT operations.

Amazon, the world’s most valuable company and a leader in cloud computing, argued in 2019 that President Donald Trumps Prejudice against the company and its CEO, Jeff Bezos, played a role in the DoD’s unfair award of the contract to Microsoft.
