Patreon lays off 17% of staff, affecting 80 employees • TechCrunch


    Creator-subscription company Patreon is the latest company to be hit by a long line of tech layoffs.

    CEO Jack Conte wrote in a letter to employees – posted to Patreon’s blog – that 17% of employees will be laid off. This affects the Go-to-Market, Operations, Finance and People teams. Patreon will also close its Berlin office, which was engaged in sales and marketing. The Dublin office will also be closed as Patreon looks to consolidate its engineering efforts in the US – relocation packages will be offered to the nine engineers working in Dublin. All affected employees will be offered severance for a minimum of three months and COBRA medical benefits for US employees for the remainder of the year.

    Patreon also fired five members of its security team just last week. Conte wrote that these layoffs “were for different reasons” than the layoffs today.
