Microsoft this week announced three new features for assessing Azure AD Conditional Access policy settings, which have all reached “general availability” (GA).
The GA status indicates commercial release, meaning Microsoft deems the features to be ready for use in production environments. Azure AD Conditional Access is a service that checks that certain policies on client devices have been set before granting network access.
One of the features, report-only mode for Azure AD Conditional Access, was earlier announced with a bunch of other Azure AD features that also reached the GA stage. The report-only mode lets IT pros see the effects of Conditional Access policies before making them go live. Azure AD Conditional Access users will now get their policies “created in report-only mode by default,” …
(Reuters) – Senior U.S. health official Francis Collins told a Senate hearing on Thursday that the country needs better diagnostic testing technology to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Collins, director of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, said existing testing technology still relies on sending samples to labs for results, and new technologies must be developed to deliver tests that rapidly deliver results on site and be widely distributed.
“We believe it is not just a matter of taking what we have and making it higher throughput, we need new technologies that have these more appropriate features,” Collins said.
Collins’ comments echoed those by Deborah Birx,…

CHINESE financial technology firms have matured under a favourable domestic policy regime with very different standards compared with other markets. Whether or not these companies can adapt successfully abroad will shape the development of Asia’s financial and payments infrastructure.
Within China, third-party payment systems have grown considerably, anchored by established Chinese technology companies. Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent are the most prominent examples of local technology companies leveraging their data products to provide financial services to businesses and retail consumers. Mobile payments via their e-wallet products such as WeChat and AliPay account for nearly 90 per cent of the local market.
As domestic markets become saturated, Chinese fintech firms are beginning to venture abroad. The fintech and mobile payments arena in South-east Asia may play host to a proxy battleground between Chinese…
The coronavirus pandemic is laying bare longstanding inequities in access to technology, and addressing the problem will have an impact on the Montgomery County Public Schools budget, Superintendent Jack Smith said Thursday.
Comparing the importance of technology to providing textbooks to students, Smith said he expects MCPS will need to allocate at least $20 million to “make sure we have a system that doesn’t require the heroics of so many people” to ensure students have laptops and the internet to complete remote learning. He called existing inequities “inexcusable.”
Since schools closed in mid-March, MCPS has loaned more than 55,000 Chromebooks to students who didn’t have devices at home.
State and federal health officials have cautioned that schools could remain closed in the fall or, if schools reopen, there could be a need…
The basic model of churches is a gathering of people who interact socially and share fellowship — which often includes physical touching, such as Catholics shaking hands during Mass as a sign of peace.
The church has been that way since the start, said Paul Scott, Pastor at First Baptist Church in Burnettsville.
With COVID-19 limiting the number of people who can be in one place and direct contact, churches have had to get creative in reaching their flocks — especially the elderly and most vulnerable.
So they’ve turned to technology and the internet.
“For a lot of churches, it was like going from 0 to 100 mph on little notice,” said Dave Hood, president of CSD, an audio, video, lighting and acoustic systems firm based in New Haven.
Hood compared it to doing…
The coronavirus crisis is a rare opportunity for Australia to fine tune its approach to online learning, according to a leading data science researcher.
Schools and other learning institutions have had to navigate a seismic shift to remote teaching in recent months, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of current methods.
As the move is fast tracked under COVID-19, Australian scientists have developed tracking technology to better understand how students engage with content outside the classroom.

Led by Chinese Internet commerce giants Tencent and Alibaba, internet providers have been offering a vast array of cloud computing services free to researchers and clinicians, while hiking their investment in advanced technologies, since the outset of the pandemic. It is still too early to know how the ramped-up use of cloud computing will affect the healthcare market in Asia over the long term, but already, there are signs the impact will be profound.
Cloud computing refers to the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer. It makes data available over the internet without direct management by the user. And it enables companies to distribute data-heavy digital resources in real time.
The technology has pushed the scalability and availability of remote work solutions and data…
