Oracle’s VMware solution accelerates cloud migration for global companies

Global organizations like Ahold Delhaize, Hitachi Construction Machinery, Lemtrans, and Mazda Motors Logistics Europe have turned to Oracle Cloud VMware Solution to move their critical business applications from on-premises data centers to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

Oracle has introduced a new OCI compute shape with an NVIDIA A10 Tensor Core GPU and Intel Xeon Platinum 8358 processor to enhance the Oracle Cloud VMware solution. Another compute shape using the AMD EPYC 9J14 processor is also in the works to provide customers with more options and improve performance across various workloads.

Mahesh Thiagarajan, executive vice president at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, highlighted how Oracle Cloud VMware Solution allows organizations to seamlessly transition their VMware clusters to the cloud without the need for learning new IT skills. This approach ensures customers can maintain control and familiarity with their VMware environments while modernizing in the cloud.

Ahold Delhaize, a top food retailer, utilized Oracle Cloud VMware Solution to migrate over 400 VMware virtual machines supporting its critical processes. The migration was aimed at enhancing performance and cutting costs, which was successfully managed by AH’s technical team and Oracle partner DXC Technology.

Hitachi Construction Machinery, a global construction equipment provider, is migrating virtual servers and databases to Oracle Cloud to boost performance and reduce infrastructure costs. This move has led to significant savings in operating costs and improved processing performance.

Lemtrans, a major railway vehicle operator in Ukraine, shifted its critical processes and databases to Oracle Cloud VMware Solution to enhance resilience. The migration was streamlined due to the identical tools used at OCI and their on-premises VMware environment.

Mazda Motors Logistics Europe NV consolidated its applications by moving virtual machines and integrating an Oracle Exadata system into Oracle databases at OCI. This consolidation allowed MLE to close data centers in Frankfurt while maintaining application customization and compatibility.

The new compute shape in Oracle Cloud VMware Solution combines an Intel Xeon Platinum 8358 processor and NVIDIA Tensor Core A10 GPU for tasks like VDI, AI inferencing, and graphics workloads. Additionally, Oracle plans to introduce a compute shape featuring the AMD EPYC 9J14 processor for increased core capacity per cluster.

Overall, the adoption of Oracle Cloud VMware Solution by these organizations showcases the benefits of transitioning critical business applications to the cloud while maintaining control, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
