According to sources, Oracle is taking steps to “repair” its relationship with the MySQL community by moving “commercial-only” features to the community edition of the database application and prioritizing developers’ needs.
The “new era” was discussed at a MySQL and Friends event before FOSDEM in Belgium. According to a summary by The Registerit focused on revitalizing the MySQL community after a Period under Big Red’s watch, during which the project’s headcount dwindled and developers considered alternatives to the venerable database.
Structural changes were also mentioned, with the MySQL group moving into Oracle’s cloud group.
