Oracle has announced plans to invest $1 billion in opening a third cloud region in Madrid, Spain to meet the increasing demand for AI and cloud services. The new region will help customers and partners across industries migrate workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and comply with regulations such as DORA and European Outsourcing Guidelines. Telefónica Spain will be the host partner for the region.

The cloud region in Madrid will enable organizations to migrate workloads, modernize applications, and innovate with data, analytics, and AI. Oracle is the only hyperscaler capable of delivering AI and a full suite of cloud services globally. The company also offers a separate EU sovereign cloud region in Madrid for customers with sensitive, regulated data.

The investment in Spain has been welcomed by government officials and leaders in the region. The additional cloud region will help Spanish organizations accelerate the adoption of cloud technologies and drive business performance. Oracle’s OCI provides customers with a resilient and scalable cloud foundation, offering low-latency access to cloud services and disaster recovery capabilities.

Financial services organizations in Spain will benefit from OCI’s capabilities to address regulatory requirements and industry-specific regulations. The sovereign AI capabilities of OCI give customers greater control over their data and IT infrastructure. The cloud architecture allows Oracle to deploy dedicated regions and public cloud regions faster, meeting the needs of different markets while maintaining consistent performance and global pricing.

Leading organizations in Spain, such as Telefónica Spain, Banco Sabadell, Naturgy, and MASORANGE, have expressed their trust in Oracle to migrate critical workloads to OCI and improve security and resilience. The upcoming cloud region will open opportunities for these organizations to leverage new technologies like AI in their businesses.

Oracle’s distributed cloud offerings include public cloud, dedicated cloud, hybrid cloud, and multicloud options, giving customers greater control and flexibility. The company continues to innovate in cloud services and infrastructure to help organizations adapt to the digital transformation and remain competitive.
