Oracle announced it is laying off nearly 500 employees in Washington.
Oracle, a global technology company that specializes in cloud computing, said in a company statement on Tuesday that it would lay off thousands of workers. The layoffs in Washington, which affect 491 employees, primarily affect those who work at Oracle’s two offices in downtown Seattle, according to the company Notification of the adaptation and retraining of the employee (WARN) submission.
Oracle, headquartered in Austin, Texas, said its Seattle offices will remain open. The company said the job cuts were the result of “headcount reductions and other layoffs.” In addition, Oracle is increasingly investing in artificial intelligence (AI).
The layoffs will take effect June 1st ReutersOracle employs 162,000 full-time employees as of May 2025. Reuters also reported that the company’s shares were up more than 5% in afternoon trading, but have fallen about 29% so far this year.
