Oracle Launches HeatWave GenAI, a New In-Database LLM and Database Vector Store now Available for General Use

Oracle has introduced a new innovation called HeatWave GenAI, the industry’s first database LLMs and automated vector warehouse in databases. This technology allows enterprise customers to utilize generative AI capabilities directly within Oracle databases without requiring AI expertise, data migration, or extra costs. HeatWave GenAI is being touted as surpassing competitors such as Snowflake, Google BigQuery, and Databricks by a large margin. Its main features include the ability to create vector stores in databases and run natural language queries using built-in or external LLMs with a single SQL command.

P Saravanan, Vice President of Cloud Engineering at Oracle India, stated that HeatWave GenAI will transform the way Indian businesses handle and analyze their growing data volumes. By merging generative AI with real-time analytics and transaction processing in a single MySQL database service, HeatWave GenAI enables organizations to extract valuable insights more efficiently and cost-effectively. Developers can benefit from Oracle’s robust infrastructure and scale-out capabilities to gain quick insights without the need for GPU provisioning, reducing complexity and improving performance.

Edward Screven, Chief Enterprise Architect at Oracle, highlighted that the built-in and automated AI enhancements in HeatWave GenAI allow developers to create rich generative AI applications faster without requiring AI expertise or data movement. This technology provides users with an intuitive way to interact with their enterprise data and receive accurate answers promptly.

HeatWave GenAI is now available in all Oracle Cloud regions, including dedicated OCI regions and multicloud environments. Current HeatWave customers can access this new offering at no additional cost, positioning Oracle as a leader in cloud-based database and AI solutions. The technology promises improved scalability, performance, and accessibility for enterprises undergoing digital transformation.

Oracle recently joined the Open Cloud Computing Project and partnered with People + AI and its affiliates to accelerate the computing ecosystem in India. Through HeatWave GenAI, Oracle aims to advance cloud database technologies, enabling enterprises to efficiently process and analyze data across various environments. Vijay Sundhar, Executive Director of SmarterD, praised HeatWave GenAI for simplifying the use of generative AI, reducing application complexity, ensuring predictable inference latency, and eliminating additional costs associated with using LLMs or creating encrustations.
