Oracle Autonomous Database is now accessible on Oracle Database@Azure

The Oracle Autonomous Database is now available on Oracle Database@Azure in the Microsoft Azure East US region, as announced on Oracle’s official website. Oracle will be managing the Oracle Autonomous Database cloud service, making it the second Oracle database service to run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in Azure data centers. This move is aimed at enhancing application innovation and speeding up development processes.

By running Oracle Autonomous Database on OCI in Azure data centers, developers can easily set up a high-quality data platform that supports various data and development models for different use cases, while reducing the complexity of integrations. This fully managed option provides application developers with database services on a large scale that offer top performance, security, and availability.

The Oracle Autonomous Database includes features like Oracle APEX for low-code development, Data Studio for data engineering, an ML laptop interface for data scientists, and easy access to data lakes. It supports open table formats like Apache Iceberg and data sharing protocols like Delta Share. Developers can utilize SQL, JSON documents, geospatial, text, ML, and vector search capabilities within a unified interface to quickly create new solutions and enhance functionality. Furthermore, built-in AI features and a variety of large language models (LLMs) help accelerate application innovation.

The AI Vector Search feature in the Oracle Autonomous Database allows developers to seamlessly integrate vector data with other structured business data in a single SQL query, enabling more insightful and efficient decision-making and data analysis processes.

Customers who utilize Oracle Database@Azure on OCI in Azure data centers can enjoy benefits like building cloud-native applications using OCI and Azure technologies, simplified migration of Oracle databases to the cloud with support for tools like Oracle Zero-Downtime Migration, high-end Oracle database performance, scale, and availability, as well as simplicity, security, and low latency for integrated solutions with autonomous databases and Azure services. It also offers consistency with on-premises Oracle Database and Oracle Exadata implementations and a unified customer support experience from Oracle and Microsoft.

Karan Batta, senior vice president of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, highlighted the strong reliance of Fortune Global 100 companies and other global organizations on Oracle databases for their operations. He emphasized the importance of Oracle Autonomous Database on Azure in helping organizations accelerate their data center transition plans and enable Azure developers to create solutions more effortlessly.
