Optus outage updates: Some readers says they still don’t have internet despite Optus outage being ‘restored’ last night

Communications Minister Michelle Rowland says her department will also launch an investigation into yesterday’s outage.

“It’s very important that we undertake an investigation into compliance here,” she says.

“But also how improvements can be made in the future to ensure the safety of all Australians.”

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has launched an investigation into whether emergency calls on mobiles were hampered during the outage.

Typically, when a network is down, mobile users are still able to reach emergency services by dialling 000 from their devices.

But yesterday, Optus said it was aware of people who were having difficulties calling triple-0 from their mobiles.

We know that no calls could be made from Optus landline phones — that includes calls to triple-0.

At the time, this was the advice from Optus:

If Optus customers need to call emergency services, we suggest finding a family member or neighbour with an alternative device.

It’s unclear at this stage how many people were impacted by this.
