Optus outage leaves millions of Australians without mobile, internet services

Thousands upon thousands of Hunter residents and businesses have been left in the dark on Wednesday morning, courtesy of a massive Optus outage.

The incident, first reported about 4am on 8 November, is believed to be interrupting everything on the network… from hospitals to major rail transport routes throughout the country.

Internet services are down, while mobile phones have been rendered useless.

“We are aware of an issue impacting Optus mobile and nbn services,” the company said in a statement.

“We’re working to restore them as quickly as possible.

“We understand connectivity is important and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The Australian Government’s also seeking answers.

“We’re trying to gain further information from Optus about the outage and when the company expects services to be restored,” the Minister for Communications Michelle Rowland said.

“The disruptions are very concerning because connectivity is essential for Australian consumers and businesses.”
