The current trend is OpenAI’s computational effort driving everything oracle (NYSE:ORCL | ORCL price prediction) To NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) to half a dozen private energy developers, and the consensus is that the only way to take advantage of AI expansion is to pay multiples for the names in the headlines. But the real story lies elsewhere.
A regulated Michigan utility that most investors under 50 have never had to think about just signed a 1.4 gigawatt data center power deal backed by Oracle and OpenAI, a deal with a potential lifetime value of $7 billion. The inventory is DTE Energy (NYSE:DTE), and while everyone was arguing about GPU allocations, the number has quietly increased by 10% since the start of the year.
