On Monday evening, the Walt Disney and OpenAI teams worked together on a project related to Sora, OpenAI’s AI video tool.
Just 30 minutes after that meeting, the Disney team was surprised by news that OpenAI would abandon the tool altogether, a person familiar with the matter said.
OpenAI publicly announced the move a day later.
“It was a big argument,” said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the matter.
The move is the ChatGPT maker’s first major move to focus its business on potentially more lucrative areas such as coding tools and enterprise.
