OnePlus has entered the wearables market with its new OnePlus watch, a seemingly high-quality smartwatch in appearance and features, but at a lower price than the competition. The $ 159 OnePlus watch has a lot going for it. It has a sleek design, advanced health sensors to keep track of blood oxygen and stress levels, and a week (or more) of battery life that could affect its lifespan Samsung Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch to be ashamed of.

But it’s not without its flaws. It is not compatible with iOS Devices (still) and has fewer third-party apps.

In addition to its new watch, Oneplus has introduced two new phones, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro.

Look at that:

OnePlus debuts with OnePlus Watch

Simple, circular design

At first glance, the OnePlus watch bears a remarkable resemblance to the Galaxy Watch Active, which is Samsung’s $ 250 sports watch. It has a round dial, an AMOLED touchscreen, and a couple of buttons on the side of the stainless steel frame. But different from that Galaxy Watch ActiveThe OnePlus watch comes in two sizes and only comes in a 46mm case with interchangeable watch straps that can be swapped out for third-party alternatives.

Basic smartwatch functionality

The OnePlus watch has everything you would expect from a smartwatch in 2021: viewing and answering notifications, making and answering phone calls, playing music and acting as a remote control for your phone camera and OnePlus TV. But there is no Spotify support or any other music app. Instead, 2 GB of internal storage for music is included. That’s the equivalent of roughly 500 songs that you can listen to on the go when you pair them with bluetooth earbuds. Currently it is only compatible with OnePlus and other Android phones. However, the company states that iOS support will come in a timely manner.

Health and fitness functions go beyond the basics

The watch also does your basic fitness tracking with over 110 different workout types and automatically logs your runs whether you have your phone with you or not. It has a built-in GPS and a 5 ATM IP68 rating which makes it safe for swimming tracking.

It also goes beyond the basics and can, if necessary, measure the SpO2 value (blood oxygen content) as well as recognize stress values and display unusually high heart rates. We will report on the accuracy of both fitness and health traits as soon as we can test them for ourselves.

Battery life for days

The other big selling point for the OnePlus watch, besides the price, is the battery life. Even if it doesn’t take the two weeks of normal use the company claims (a week of all cylinders firing), it’s still miles ahead of it Galaxy Watch 3 and Apple Watch, which barely make it to the 48-hour mark.

The watch also charges quickly: you can get a full day of power from five minutes on the charger or wait 20 minutes for a week.

We will see

The One Plus Watch seems to meet all of the criteria in terms of price, features and design, but the jury is still unsure whether or not the company’s first smartwatch can deliver on all of its promises. As soon as we can test it for ourselves, we’ll let you know if it’s as good as it sounds.

The OnePlus watch will go on sale on April 14th. It is available from OnePlus.
