On the use of AI in comments – Daily Nous

I appreciate that last part. The allegations of AI use are now far more widespread than the use of AI itself, which is ridiculous.

I’ve never used AI to write comments and probably won’t since I usually type them on my phone while doing other things. If I used AI, my comments would be much better – fewer typos, more organized, and less self-indulgent (ha!).

However, I am not convinced that the use of AI needs to be moderated. What matters is, as Matthew Hammerton explained take responsibility. The real scourge of this blog to me is anonymous commenters who denigrate, denigrate and blame named commenters behind a shield. This creates an asymmetrical situation in which the same commentators continually evade responsibility while many of us continue to collect strays. When a writer identifies themselves, they are responsible for their words, whether they are AI-powered or not. I’ve read people complaining about AI comments because they couldn’t tell who they were talking to – I agree…
