Google has expanded access to its Magic Editor feature, originally available only on the Pixel 8 Series, to older Pixel phones and select Android devices for free. The rollout for Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 users started a week later than planned, but now all users can enjoy premium Google Photos features like Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur at no cost.

The AI-powered Magic Editor tool allows users to delete unwanted objects, change sky colors, resize subjects, and more. Previously exclusive to the Pixel 8 Series, Google announced in April a wider availability of Magic Editor for iPhones and compatible Android devices. Following this, older Pixel phones gained access to the feature a month and a half later.

Several Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 users have reported gaining access to Magic Editor on their phones, with the rollout starting a week after the initial planned date. To use Magic Editor, users must have the latest version of the Google Photos app installed on their devices. Magic Editor is slated to become available on non-Pixel devices in the future, but with some limitations, such as a cap on the number of saves per month and the need for a Google One subscription for extended access.

Magic Editor is compatible with Android 8.0+ devices with 4 GB of RAM and a 64-bit chipset. Google is expected to prioritize premium and flagship devices for the feature before expanding it to older mid-range devices in the future.

In addition to Magic Editor, Google has made other premium Google Photos features free for Android, iPhone, and Chromebook users. These include tools like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, HDR effect, portrait blur, cinematic photos, and more. Users can utilize these tools without any limitations on usage.

If the new editing tools and filters in Google Photos are not yet visible, users should expect the rollout to take a few weeks to complete. Overall, the expansion of Magic Editor and other premium features aims to enhance photo editing capabilities for a wider range of users across different devices.
