Ola Shifts Workload from Microsoft Azure to ‘Krutrim’ Own Cloud Platform amid LinkedIn Controversy

Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder of Ola, recently announced that the ride-hailing platform has moved its entire workload from Microsoft Azure cloud service to its own ‘Krutrim’ cloud. This decision came after Aggarwal had a negative experience with Microsoft-owned professional network LinkedIn. He expressed his frustration when LinkedIn removed his posts without informing him, which led him to criticize the platform for imposing a political ideology on Indian users through its artificial intelligence tool.

In response to this incident, Aggarwal decided to shift Ola’s workload from Azure to its own Krutrim cloud within a week. He also pledged to help other developers transition away from Azure and move to their own Indian stack, with over 2,500 developers already signing up for the service. Aggarwal emphasized the importance of maintaining control over their cloud services and ensuring data security by using their own platform.

The controversy began when Aggarwal shared his thoughts on gender pronouns on X, referring to it as a “pronoun disease.” In a response from the LinkedIn bot, the platform used gender-neutral pronouns such as “they” and “their” to address Aggarwal. This incident prompted Aggarwal to assert that Indian companies do not need lectures from Western companies on inclusivity, highlighting the cultural differences in approaches to gender issues.

In light of these developments, Ankush Aggarwal, the brother of Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, announced his return to the ride-hailing business after working with Ola Electric. It seems that the Ola ecosystem is experiencing significant changes, with Ola Mobility CFO Kartik Gupta also resigning just two weeks after a high-profile exit from the company.

Overall, Bhavish Aggarwal’s decision to move Ola’s workload from Microsoft Azure to its own ‘Krutrim’ cloud reflects a growing trend among Indian tech companies to prioritize data ownership and security. By asserting control over their cloud services, Ola aims to protect user data and ensure the reliability of their platform. The move also signals a shift towards promoting indigenous technology solutions and supporting local developers in India.
