Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal announced on Wednesday that the entire workload of the ride-hailing platform has been shifted from Microsoft Azure cloud service to its own cloud ‘Krutrim’. This decision was made following a frustrating experience Aggarwal had with Microsoft-owned professional network LinkedIn.
In a post on social media platform X, Aggarwal confirmed that the company has completed the transition from Azure to Krutrim, as promised, with all workloads now running on their own cloud. The move was prompted by LinkedIn’s removal of Aggarwal’s posts without informing him. Aggarwal expressed his dissatisfaction with LinkedIn’s actions, particularly criticizing its artificial intelligence tool for allegedly imposing a political ideology on Indian users.
In response to the incident, Aggarwal stated that Ola will be assisting other developers in transitioning their workloads to “our own Indian stack”. He mentioned that over 2,500 developers have already signed up for this transition and that the company will be working with them to access their cloud services in the coming weeks.
The conflict with LinkedIn began when Aggarwal shared his thoughts on gender pronouns, referring to a “pronoun disease”. In response, the LinkedIn bot used gender-neutral pronouns to address Aggarwal. This led Aggarwal to assert that Indian companies do not need lessons on inclusivity from Western companies.
In conclusion, Ola’s founder has successfully shifted the company’s workload from Microsoft Azure to their own cloud ‘Krutrim’ in response to a disagreement with LinkedIn over issues of political ideology and inclusivity. Aggarwal’s decision to move away from Azure reflects his commitment to maintaining control over the company’s operations and fostering a more inclusive environment for Indian users.
