Ola Group has successfully migrated all of its workload to Krutrim Cloud, its own AI company, just one week after ending its partnership with Microsoft Azure. Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder and CEO of Ola, announced this transition on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on May 22. Aggarwal stated that the company’s Azure spend is now at 0, with all workloads now running on Krutrim Cloud. He also mentioned that over 2500 developers have already signed up to use their cloud services, and Ola will be assisting others in transitioning to their Indian stack in the following weeks.

The decision to move away from Microsoft Azure and utilize Krutrim Cloud was prompted by a recent incident involving LinkedIn, a platform owned by Microsoft, removing a post by Aggarwal regarding “pronoun illness.” As a response, Ola made the strategic move to rely on their own proprietary AI infrastructure.

Ola, well-known for its ride-hailing services and as India’s top electric scooter manufacturer, had been a significant Microsoft Azure customer since 2017. The collaboration was aimed at developing a connected vehicle platform for global automobile manufacturers, and Ola was considered one of the largest Azure customers in India.

Krutrim, which means “artificial” in Sanskrit, is focused on creating a comprehensive AI computing stack and will operate as a separate entity within the Ola Group, alongside Ola Electric and Ola taxi services. The company recently introduced new software and cloud services, including Krutrim Cloud, which provides developers and businesses with advanced GPU resources to enhance project productivity and efficiency.

Founded in December 2023, Krutrim quickly achieved unicorn status after a $50 million funding round led by Matrix Partners India, valuing the company at $1 billion. This successful transition to Krutrim Cloud showcases Ola’s commitment to leveraging its own AI capabilities and fostering innovation within the Indian tech industry.
