A few months ago, I placed an order for black PS5 Faceplates with the hope that they will improve the aesthetics of Sony’s gigantic new console.
The design of the PS5 is divided, and while I was interested in the radical look when Sony first showed it off in 2020 – after living under my TV with the original white console for almost six months, it’s bright white hue has started to turn out to be a bright white hue rub.
Enter the ‘Darkplates’ I bought from dbrand. We got them covered when they went on sale in February 2021 – and the controversial marketing of dbrand around the PS5 accessories, in which someone (e.g. Sony) is expressly asked to file a lawsuit.
However, there is currently no lawsuit in sight, and Darkplates have been continuously shipping to customers around the world. Mine arrived this weekend and I love the mini transformation they gave my console.
Installation is easy
Sony found that the PlayStation 5’s faceplates are easy to remove tear off video in the console It was shared prior to the system’s release date – which immediately sparked discussion of possible custom faceplates for the machine.
A firm grip on the horizontally laid console is required, and if you press the panels onto the console from above, they slide off nicely – but this requires a little force.
Putting on the ‘dark plates’ is as easy as aligning the corresponding slots and pushing them in the opposite direction to the plates that have just been removed. And voilà – a black PS5 is now yours!
The final look
What does my now black PS5 look like under my TV in your home? For me it’s a significant improvement. It’s now more subtle in its presence, almost blending in with the shadow of the shelf it sits on when not in use. However, it remains an eye catcher when I turn it on and the blue strip lights illuminate the inner channels.
Well, not everyone will agree that this is an upgrade in terms of looks, and it can be argued that $ 59 (although it’s currently reduced to $ 49 at the time of writing) for a couple of sheets ( admittedly well-made) plastic is a little extreme.
But for those dreaming of a black PS5, this is an easy way to make that dream a reality (assuming it actually exists) PS5 camp available to even get the console).
