Ofcom has launched an investigation into Elon Musk’s X amid concerns its AI tool Grok is being used to create sexualised images.
In a statement, the British regulator said there had been “deeply concerning reports” that the chatbot had been used to create and share unclothed images of people as well as “sexualized images of children.”
In the event of a breach of the law, Ofcom can take action
The BBC has contacted X for comment. Elon Musk had previously said that the UK government wanted “some excuse for censorship” in response to a post asking why other AI platforms were not being audited.
The BBC has seen several examples of digitally altered images on X in which women were stripped and placed in sexual positions without their consent. One woman said more than 100 sexualized images were created of her.
