Artificial Intelligence has catapulted NVIDIA into becoming one of the world’s most valuable companies. A business that made its mark building specialized microchips and software for gaming consoles such as the Sony PlayStation, later discovered that those same chips, graphical processing units (GPUs), were the right technical architecture for accelerating deep learning, the magic at the heart of today’s most innovative AI. As a result, NVIDIA is playing a central role in the intelligence age, and their chips and software are the driving force behind many of the world’s leading AI providers.
NVIDIA’s GPU-centric approach to AI, simulation, and high-performance computing now provides accelerated supercomputing in a wide variety of contexts that include robotics, autonomous vehicles, and healthcare. Notably, they don’t make those things, but they supercharge them.
It’s not a surprise then that NVIDIA is also bringing this same core strength to the emergent quantum computing industry. NVIDIA isn’t building a quantum processing unit (QPU), instead it’s using its supercomputing capabilities to work with over 200 partners to accelerate quantum computing research and commercialization.
